Q84
by Haruki Murakami
SUMMARY
1Q84 transports readers into a surreal and parallel version of Tokyo in the year 1984. The story alternates between two central characters: Aomame, a fitness instructor and covert assassin, and Tengo, a math teacher and writer. Aomame finds herself in a world subtly different from her own after descending an emergency stairway, noticing details like the presence of two moons and new historical events that didn’t exist before. Tengo becomes entangled in rewriting a mysterious manuscript, Air Chrysalis, which draws him into a world involving a religious cult called Sakigake and supernatural forces.
As their stories unfold, the novel gradually reveals that Aomame and Tengo share a deep connection rooted in their childhood. Across three volumes, their separate paths converge in this unsettling new reality—one filled with “Little People,” alternate dimensions, and an exploration of love as a force that transcends time and space.
